Summary: If this is your first child and you have just begun teething, it can be a nightmare.  Trying to calm a toddler in pain is difficult and heartbreaking.  However, here is some toddler teething help to get you through this rough time.

All children began teething at different ages.  Some may start as early as three months, while others do not start until they are almost one.  Either way, almost all babies and toddlers experience some pain due to the teething.  We as parents are trying to calm them and make the pain stop, however non-stop crying and yelling can leave any parent distressed and exhausted.  Here are a few tips that may help you get through those long nights and sometimes days and make your toddler a little more comfortable while those teeth are coming in.
  • Get teethers that can be frozen.  If you have not already bought a few teethers that are filled with liquid and then frozen, do so.  These will work wonders for your toddler.  If they do not like that they are so cold on their hands, you may have to hold it for them, until it warms up little for them to hold onto.  Most children do enjoy these, it cools their throbbing gums and they can chew on them.  They are safe for them to bite and suck on for long periods of time.  Also, some do come with handles that are not filled with liquid and this usually does not get as cold and is easier for them to hold.
  • Use toys that have teethers on them.  There are other teethers available that do not need to be frozen and they are bumpy.  Usually they are attached to a toy that might play music or have other items that your toddler can play with and chew on.  These are good for children that do not like the frozen teethers or when you have to leave and do not want a melting teether in your car.
  • Baby Oragel is a teething gel that you rub on their sore gums.  It is similar to the gel adults use, but made specifically for babies and toddlers.  Depending the child, the taste may bother them or it may be difficult to get their mouth open long enough to rub the gel on their gums.  However, Baby Oragel works great and will numb and sooth their gums for a couple of hours.
  • Lastly, using aspirin when all else has failed.  You will definitely need to read the instructions thoroughly and even check with your pediatrician first, just to make sure which aspirin to use and if your child can use it.  If you can, then this will help them sleep and alleviates the soreness almost immediately.  Crushing the tablets is easiest and using your finger to place the aspirin in their mouth works best.

Trying any of these methods or even a combination of of some will definitely help your uncomfortable toddler.  Teething is never fun for the parents or child, however having a few remedies quickly available will make the process a little easier and less of a nightmare.
