How To Lay Babies in a Crib

Summary: The overwhelming advice from everybody nowadays is to make sure that your baby sleeps on their back. The "Back To Sleep" campaign recommends that you should place your healthy child on their back when they are sleeping this is to reduce the risks of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and also a known cause "Crib Death".

Just to give you a little bit of history about the idea behind this in 1992 the American Academy of Pediatric started to recommends that babies should be placed on the back or sides when you are putting them to sleep. This is completely opposite to what had happened previously were parents were told that the baby should sleep on their stomachs. There is so much information out there that gives recommendations about the type of bedding, room temperature, sleep positioning it can all become very confusing for most parents.

I think in fact any mention of the word sudden infant death syndrome can actually scare many parents, where in fact healthcare advisors need to ensure parents that the possibility of your baby dying from SIDS is very low. In saying this it's important that all parents should do everything they can to ensure that they get their baby to sleep on their backs or side.

A couple of other things to consider, your baby should always sleep in her crib. You should not allow them to sleep in a bed because this is too big and it has a footboard  or headboard to cook become trapped between the mattress and the board itself. You should never let your baby to sleep on a couch because they have the possibility of falling off. When y you put them in the crib in the nursery you should ensure that the temperature within this room is not too warm. Make sure that the crib is not in any kind of direct sunlight or beside a radiator. Of course it's logic that should not keep the crib beside any type of appliances or cables that dangle, for example window blinds chords or telephone wires because these cold cause strangulation and you must always have safety in mind.

There has been a lot said about what you're child should wear at night time and many people recommend that they should use cotton cloths because this is a breathable material. You should not let your newborn have a blanket until they are at least 12 months old. This is to ensure they do not pose a soap over their heads at my time because once they reach 12 months they are able to remove this by moving their arms. You can find many articles on the Internet for research that's been done to give us lots of good information on bassinets, convertible cribs, cradle, cots etc. there are many different types of safety aspects that every mother should be aware of.

As a new mommy you might find it difficult to get your child to sleep because the simple fact is that not all newborns like to sleep on their back and prepare to sleep on their side. Again you can find lots of information on how you position your baby on their site in order for them to have a nights sleep. Some parents think that they should use wedges or bumpers which many SIDS experts do not support, they feel that restricting the freedom of movement of your baby should never be used. These experts advised that many parents should be shown the correct positioning of side sleep I should not try and restrict their babies movement.

Pregnancy can be a difficult time for many mothers and then they go straight into looking after their baby. It's important that you enjoy this time and do not worry too much about getting your baby to sleep. They will sleep, you will have difficult nights in the beginning and it may seem that it will never end. The fact is, it does and it becomes more enjoyable. You just need to understand when choosing a baby crib you must think about crib safety and other things like what type of mattresses you want to use and other things of course like room temperature. You can read many articles out there that give lots more voice than we can possibly give if you ever have any questions you should always consult your healthcare expert because they will be in a much better position to advise you of any questions you should ever have.
