The History of Graco

Russell Gray and Robert Cone started Graco Metal Products in 1942, mainly they produced machine and car parts and sold them to local manufactures in Philadelphia. Gray decided to leave the company in 1953 to pursue other avenues and wanted to create a unique line of products.

David Saint a Graco employee came up with an idea, he was watching his wife on the swing in their backyard, rocking one of their nine children to sleep. He basically began working and building on the idea of his wife swinging their children to sleep, invented the Swyngomatic. Anyway Graco expected to sell anout 10,000 but instead sold millions. This was the beginning of a whole line of firsts for Graco.

In 1987 Nate Saint the son of David Saint, invented the Pack N’ Play® Portable Playard, and that had the same success as the Swyngomatic. The indoor playard was just perfect for busy parents. Later Graco introduced the Travel System a car seat stroller combination that became a favorite for parents who didn’t want to wake their babies up when transporting them from home to car or vice versa.

Today Graco have a great line of aluminum-framed strollers called Quattro Tour™, and a range of infant car seats, featuring the TurboBooster™ youth booster car seat. Going forward Graco are sure to be first with more and more products.
