What is Childproofing

Posted on February 9, 2009 by ElaineNo Comments

Childproofing your home basically entails making it safe for young children.  The kind of things you need to be aware of are electrical sockets which any local DIY store will stock plugs, these fit nicely into the sockets and are hard for children to grip. The last thing you want is your child putting tiny fingers into electrical sockets.

Cabinets are another area that you need to look at when childproofing, allowing your child’s to access these could be disastrous for you (with smashed plates for example) and you can also endanger your child’s.  Cabinet locks worked on the inside and normally very very simple to install and make it difficult for a child with small fingers to open. The last thing you want is to have your child’s access to a cabinet with chemicals and cleaning products.  Again you can find these in your local DIY store on to install them all you need is a screwdriver and a little time.

Your baby will not understand the dangers all around them all they are interested in is exploring, which in turn will probably drive you mad but if you have your home child friendly this should not be an issue.

Next area we need to look at is a stair gate. These basically install at the top of the stairs also at the bottom if needed and prevent your baby trying to explore this area and of course the dangers of falling down.  These gates of course come in different sizes depending on the size of the stairs. They are an essential part of making your home safe your baby.

Young Children will not be aware of the hidden dangers in your home, in fact maybe you will not be aware of some of them. Maybe ask what other parents have done and asked them to help and recommend changes you need to make to your home.
