Causes of bedwetting are not the same for everyone. Night time bedwetting is called nocturnal enuresis. It is rare but bedwetting can be caused by underlying illnesses and other physical problems. There is no cure for bedwetting because there really isn’t a need for one. Most kids outgrow bedwetting eventually.

You will know if your child is wetting the bed, eventually. They come and tell you or like many kids, are embarrassed and will hide their wet night clothes. You might find them on the couch asleep in different pajamas than they wore to bed.

An occasional wetting the bed is generally not something to be overly concerned about. If it seems to be that a child wets the bed more often than they stay dry.  Bed wetting is also called enuresis.  There are two types of enuresis.

A child who wets the bed often has a lowered self-esteem because of this “problem”.  You may find their pajamas rolled up and in the corner of their closet.  Children will try to hide the fact that they wet the bed at night. These children deserve love and support not  the anger of their parents or the belittling statements made by siblings.  The child should be supported as they go through this.

Bed wetting is a concern to the parents. What can be causing it? Parents are  usually upset when their child after becoming fully potty trained and regresses to the not being able to control going to the bathroom especially at night. The main bed wetting  concern is the child.

In childhood there is no more embarrassing occurrence than bedwetting.  There is shame and embarrassment. This is nothing to tease or ridicule a child about. Siblings may be thrilled they have something over the child but this must be avoided.

Enuresis is the medical term for not being able to control your bladder. You may be sleeping so deeply that you don’t feel the need to pee and you can wet the bed.
Enuresis that occurs at night is nocturnal enuresis.  Enuresis that occurs at night is called diurnal enuresis.
