Pooh and his crew are one of the most often used themes for decorating a baby’s room and so is also a favorite theme for baby showers.
From paper plates and cups to centerpieces and cake toppers, Pooh and company adorn just about every item you might need for a party.
First, you need to know how many people need to be invited to the baby shower and get a list of names and street or email addresses. Be sure to include an R.S.V.P. contact name and number. Decide where you will hold the shower and when. The shower should be held about six weeks before the due date. Ask for RSVP’s to be in at least two weeks before the shower.
Go to your local store and purchase your Winnie the Pooh invitations and thank you cards. Next begin to plan your menu and any games that you might want to play as well as table and wall decorations.
You can get Winnie the Pooh wall decorations, centerpieces and balloons with weights to hold them down.
Visit thrift, discount and dollar stores and look for a vase, plastic or glass, that resembles Pooh’s “Hunny Pot” in shape. You can then paint it the right color and stencil “Hunny” on the front. Use it to hold some flowers, Pooh lollipops or pens with Pooh toppers on them.
If you use real flowers, look for the pink, purple, orange and golden honey colors to go along with the colors of the Pooh characters. You could go to a toy or discount store to look for small Pooh toys that you could arrange around the floral arrangements or vases.
Put a card table next to where the expectant mom will sit to open the presents. Cover the table with a Winnie the Pooh table cloth. Have the guests place their presents on the table.
Do you want to play games at the shower? You could play “pin the tail on Eeyore” or do a “How much do you know about Winnie the Pooh?” quiz. Have at least ten questions. For instance, “who is the author of the original Winnie the Pooh story?”, “Where does Pooh live?”, “What is the name of Pooh’s human friend?”, you get the idea. The prize? A stuffed Winnie the Pooh or another of the characters.
Use Winnie the Pooh cups, plates, tablecloths and napkins. Get a Winnie the Pooh cake pan. And make a cake in it. You might prefer to have a bakery make your cake and decorate it with the inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Woods.
You can buy Pooh cake toppers and ornaments on line and in your local party store. It is likely you will have more choices on line than in a local shop. We found several sites where you can shop for Pooh party supplies, anything from cake toppers to treat bags and everything in between.
We found Winnie the Pooh mechanical pencils at a local dollar store and purchased several packages. We used ribbon to tie one pencil and baby sock roses together as guest favors. Everyone loved them. You can find instructions for the sock roses on the web, just type “make baby sock roses” into your search engine and you will find a few versions of the rose. The first one will take a while to make, but once you get the technique down it will go much faster. You will need six pairs of socks to make a dozen roses. The colors or patterns don’t matter. Why not use Winnie the Pooh socks to make a small bouquet of roses for the mother to be? That makes it an extra gift that she can use.
If you make a diaper cake, again find the instructions on the net. You could top it off with a Winnie the Pooh figurine or cake topper (another extra gift). Mom’s can never have enough diapers. These cakes can be made with cloth or disposable diapers, depending on the mother’s preference. It only takes from 30-45 minutes to put together. You will need about 50-60 diapers, rubber bands, ribbons, baby toys (Pooh or other) and toiletries to decorate the cake and a Pooh plastic nursing bottle.
Use Pooh stickers to seal the invitations and give stickers to the parents to go with the thank you notes that you bought with the invitations. The coordinating thank you notes will make the parents so happy that you would think of that.
A Pooh baby shower is one of the easiest to have, because there is so much in the way of decorations, tableware, invitations, thank you notes and favors to choose from and available at affordable prices, especially if you check out clearance sales.
Make sure that when the expectant mother is opening the presents someone should write down each gift and the giver just in case the cards accidentally get separated from the gifts, the family will still know who to thank for what gift.
If you get all Winnie the Pooh party supplies for baby shower, you won’t have to worry if the tablecloth will go with the plates and cups you bought.
