Summary: Generally baby showers have themes and the baby shower tableware should match or complement the theme and the other baby shower party supplies. For instance if the mom has chosen a Disney Princess theme you wouldn’t want to use “Cars” tableware.
However if you can’t locate enough tableware to match the theme, get your cups, plates and utensils in a color to match one of the main colors in the theme. If you want you could put stickers on the cups to tie them to the shower theme.
You will need to decide on a baby shower centerpiece. A cluster of helium balloons tied to a bowl of candy would work. Flowers in theme colors or a diaper cake with the appropriate stuffed animal or character.
You will need to get plates for food and then smaller cake plates as well as hot and cold cups, napkins and cutlery for all of the guests. Make sure you have extras in case people show up who didn’t respond or some get dropped.
Your local party store should be able to supply you with what you need. However check on line party supply sites, you may get it cheaper even with shipping costs. Don’t forget that you will need favors and your party supplier should be able to help you with that also. Most of these companies can personalize your cups, napkins and favors for a small extra charge. Sometimes if you spend over a certain amount personalization is free.
If mommy has chosen a princess theme make sure you get her a tiara to wear during the shower. Often you can find invitations and thank you cards to match your theme. If the mom knows whether the baby will be a girl or boy that will make your task a bit easier. Is she carrying twins? That is another possible theme, you could do Noah’s Ark. “Two peas in a pod” is another twin theme and there is tableware available for both.
If men will be present at the baby shower you will probably want to adapt the games and pay as much attention to dad as you do to the mother. Make sure your menu has some hearty food for the guys so they won’t feel out of place. Couples bridal and baby showers are becoming more popular. This will be an event everyone will remember.
If the baby is a boy, you can have a theme that the guys will be more comfortable with such as a western theme with cowboy type decorations. Or a car theme, even a safari theme would be a great idea in this situation. A sports theme would also work for a boy’s baby shower and like the other themes mentioned you can easily find all of the tableware for this sort of theme.
If the shower or due date is close to a major holiday, that would also set you up with a ready made theme. For instance cupids and hearts for St. Valentine’s Day or Santa and Rudolph for a Christmas time shower.
