Make Baby Shower Booties

 Cut two small slits on the top, then cut one inch off the top of the cup.  Then cut to about an inch from the bottom of the cup, and cut another slit about 1 ½ inches apart.

 Push this tongue in and bring the sides in to create flaps.  Punch matching holes on both flaps.  Brush some nail polish inside the holes.  Lace the ribbon through the holes, tie in a bow and curl the ends.

 You can decorate the booties with lots of lace, jewels or faux suede fringe for baby showers.  These booties make wonderful presents for guests to take home as a memento of the shower.  Wrap some candy mints, chocolate or nuts in mesh bags or clear food wrap.  Tie with a ribbon and put them in the booties.  You might want to wrap them in cellophane tied with a ribbon to make them look more elegant.  You can paint or decorate these booties in keeping with the shower theme.

 Try trimming the top of the booties with decorative scissors to give your booties a more realistic appearance.  You might also try painting the booties and then spraying them with a clear gloss to make them shine.  It gives foam the appearance of ceramic.

 You  could cut booties from cardstock poster board or construction paper and use them for your shower invitations, place cards or thank you notes.  You could get a child’s discarded snow boot and cut it down to look like a bootie and put a small vase of flowers inside.  Decorate it with toys and ribbons.

 We found a plastic boot that once held dog treats.  I cut it down a bit and decorated it with a lace cuff.  Then the bootie was filled with wrapped candies which we counted as we put them in.  Give each guest a pencil and a piece of paper and have them guess the number of candies, write it down and sign.

 The person who comes closest without going over wins the candy.  The same boot could be used in the same way for a western baby shower.  In this case you might want to trim the edges with suede fringe.  You could also do the same thing with a child’s outgrown cowboy boots.  It is already a great and easy decoration.

 I was browsing the baby department of my favorite department store and found the cutest little booties that looked like dad’s work boots.  I bought four pair and created a baby shower mobile to hang over mom’s chair at as shower.  Everyone loved it.

 If you have enough time you could make baby shower booties by knitting or crocheting a few pairs to use for decoration at the shower you are hosting.  You could make miniature baby shower booties to use as package ties or to dangle from a corsage for the expectant mother.  You could use a pair of booties tied together for napkin rings.  Just have fun while you make baby shower booties to use in lots of different ways.

 You can also make baby booties from felt and decorate them according to the sex of the baby.

 Look on line and in local thrift stores for floral containers or baskets that are shaped and decorated to look like baby booties.  These can be used to hold a variety of objects including baby washcloth lollipops, real flowers or sock roses and maybe some real lollipops they could also be used on the food table to hold cutlery or lined with a napkin and filled with bread sticks or some small rolls.  You are limited only by your imagination.

 And oh you might want to make a pair of baby booties and a matching hat with silk ribbon instead of yarn and, my goodness, they can be given to the mom for the baby to actually wear.

 Booties are easy to make whether for decoration or as footwear for babies.  My friend’s grandmother crocheted booties that looked like Mary Janes with white socks that were just adorable.  She also made basketball shoe booties.  She had no pattern for either of these.  She was an amazing woman who loved designing her own bootie patterns.

 Booties can be just one of many decorations at a baby shower or you can build your entire shower around the bootie theme.  Cups, plates, napkins, wall decorations and even the cake can look like booties.  If you are unsure of the baby’s sex you can have the booties in yellow and green.

 Baby showers are events that please everyone.  The happiness of the parents, grandparents and siblings spills over into their circles of relatives and friends who are all waiting to welcome this new life into the fold.  That is why you are so wiling to make baby shower booties while you await the birth of this child.
