Some people dislike this type of shower because they feel that they are being told what they should buy. Others find it helpful because it narrows down the amount of gifts they have to choose from.
If you get bath time it definitely steers you towards a particular type of gift. Why not purchase a baby bath tub with a non-slip bottom? Also buy a couple of hooded baby towels, wash cloths, baby liquid soap, shampoo and body lotion. You will want to buy some bath toys as well.
Depending on your budget you might consider a tub that has an insert that cradles the baby so that she doesn’t slip into the water and can be removed when the baby grows and can sit a little better in the tub.
There are bath towels and then there are bath towels that are soft and extra absorbent, perfect for wrapping up a slippery wet baby.
Are the baby’s parents into buying eco-friendly products and natural shampoos, etc.? Then go on line and look for eco-friendly baby care products. They may cost a bit more but they do not contain a lot of chemicals and don’t contribute to pollution. The containers are generally recycled and made of non-toxic materials. You can purchase really nice bath gifts and be earth friendly at the same time.
You can get beautiful towels and wash cloths that are made of all natural materials and are also free of any toxins.
You can buy towels that are made of natural fibers but have been treated to increase absorbency and retain color. If you want to give a really interesting gift buy some all natural towels and make a towel cake. These are popular at wedding showers, but there is no reason you can’t bring one to a baby shower. When you shop for these towels, make sure that if they are available in colors, only natural dyes have been used.
If you and the parents are not concerned about these issues than you have an almost endless amount of choices. Should you get baby themed towels with characters on them? Or should you stay with regular towels like mom and dad use? What colors should you get?
What is a bath for a child or baby without some bath toys? You can get toys that squirt water or just float around to amuse the baby.
Just make sure that the bath toys you buy are safe with no parts that can fall off or be pulled off by the baby who might put it in her mouth and potentially choke on. Also if it has a squeaker in it, can it be easily removed by the child? If so, either remove it yourself or buy something else.
Baby soaps, shampoos, lotions and bubble bath need to be checked for additives that provide color and scent to the products but may also cause an allergic reaction in some children and babies. Also make sure that the products you buy are not toxic if accidentally ingested by the child.
You can type “all natural baby care products” into your search engine. You will come up with several companies that sell these kinds of products. Check them out before you even consider buying anything.
Also do a web search for 100% natural fiber towels and you will find vendors who have these items. You can also check out the web pages of high end department stores. They very well may have these items available. You may get a break if you can catch a sale.
You may want to try stores that specialize in natural foods, they may also carry all natural bath products that are safe for babies. It may take some work, but you can find these kinds of products, especially in or near major urban areas and in university towns.
Why not get a large cardboard box and put the tub and other items in the box and stuff the box with lots of newspaper or packing pellets so that everyone will be wondering what could be in that gigantic box? You could wrap every individual item separately. I would wrap all the baby toiletries together and put the towels in a separate package then place all of these inside the big box with the safety tub. You will have everyone wondering what could be in such a big package. They will be giggling at all of the little packages inside such a big box.
17However if you are hosting the shower why not put the tub with all of the towels, toiletries and bath toys unwrapped on the main table for a centerpiece? Make sure you put a card in there so mom knows who gave the bath tub and supplies.
Bath tubs and other bath time items are not usually at the top of the list of shower gifts that people have in mind when they shop for gifts, so there probably won’t be duplicates and you won’t have to offer to exchange your baby bath shower gift.
