Car seats

Car seats should be matched to your vehicle for compatibility

Car Seats are an effective way of keeping your baby safe and comfortable while riding with you in the car.  In order to better ensure your child’s safety follow all installation directions carefully.  Check the compatibility of the car seat with your vehicle. Some car seats, for example, do not fit in the rear seat of a two-door vehicle.  If you can’t afford a car seat there are organizations that will lend you one until you get one. Some will even sell you one at minimal cost.

There are options with car seats to consider such as; are you in and out of the car frequently with your baby?  A car seat with a stay in the car base would work well for you.   Is the seat returnable if there are any problems or if there are compatibility issues?

For the ongoing safety of your baby in car seats, make sure all belts and latches are in good working condition, keep up with current laws on car seats and continually check that they are properly installed.  Also, if the seat is vinyl or leather you can purchase a cloth seat cover or put a towel on the seat to protect your baby’s delicate skin.

The position of the car seat will depend on your baby’s age.  Newborns are to be placed facing the rear of the vehicle.  As your child grows the seat will be turned to face the front and should be placed preferably in the middle. Else wise any position in the rear seat is acceptable.  Check all belts and buckles, and make sure latches are quick releasing.   Enjoy the car ride knowing your baby is safe in his car seat.
